Meet Miyawata. She is a member of the Poundmaker First Nation and has been an active defender of both social and environmental causes in her community. She has led truth and reconciliation workshops, written inclusive land acknowledgements and campaigned for land sovereignty and climate justice in her hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba. She organized the city’s first student climate strike and her work has been featured on the BBC series “My Life”. She has co-authored a university-level textbook about Indigenous health determinants and was a keynote speaker at the International Meeting on Indigenous Child Health in 2022. She is pursuing a degree in midwifery at McMaster University.
