St Cecilia’s Orphanage, in the small village of Mapepe, Zambia, is dedicated to helping children who have been abandoned because of financial problems, poor health or disabilities. Thanks to the amazing work of UK-based charity Zambian Gems, St Cecilia’s Orphanage has sustainable access to food, clean water, sanitation and medical treatment.

The next challenge is to send these children to school. In Zambia, less than 40% of all girls from low-income families finish secondary school. This number is generally far lower in places like Mapepe.

Girls Write the Future has partnered with Zambian Gems to guarantee the education of every child at St Cecilia’s Orphanage. We achieved this goal in June 2021 and continue to monitor the progress of each student.
