Before You Begin
Beyond personal details (like your contact information, your GPA and what school you go to), you will need to include the following in your application:
An overview of your extra-curricular activities.
The contact details of one academic referee and one non-academic referee. We ask for references to get to know you better as an individual both inside and outside the classroom.
Your academic referee must be somebody who knows you well and can tell us more about you as a student. Examples might include a current or former teacher, an academic advisor or a tutor.
Your non-academic referee must be somebody who knows you well and can tell us more about you as an individual outside the classroom. Examples might include a current or former coach, teacher, mentor or community member. We prefer it if your referee is not from your immediate family (i.e. siblings, parents/legal guardian)
Please make sure that you have asked your referees for references before you nominate them in your application.
A personal essay. The prompt is:
Write a short essay to tell us about yourself. What interests you? What are you passionate about? How are you involved in your local community? Please limit your answer to 500-1000 words.
If you are on a gap year, please make sure that you include your motivations for taking a gap year, what you plan on doing and/or what you have done so far.
In reading your essay, we will be looking for authenticity, passion for your work and a candid expression of your personality. We suggest that you draft your essay before beginning your application.
Proof of your First Nations and/or Inuit and/or Métis status. You do not need to do this immediately if you don’t have the right documents to hand. However, if you are accepted to be a scholar, you will need to submit valid documentation in order to receive funding.
Please make sure to have all of your documents and application material ready before you begin your application — once you begin, you won’t be able to exit and continue later.
Although we’re certain that we’ll read many excellent applications from exceptional applicants, please know that we simply do not have the resources to offer funding to everyone who deserves it. A rejected application does not reflect a lack of talent, merit or worth. We plan to increase the capacity of this scholarship on a yearly basis and you are more than welcome to re-apply next year if you remain eligible.
